How to receive messages

One of the things that never ceases to astound me is the support one can receive via messages from either oracle decks, bibliomancy, dreams, or ‘voices’ in your head. These messages can be powerful when you actively ask for answers or insight, but they can be extremely powerful and potent when you don’t realize your spirit is asking and somehow….a message reaches you.

I want to share a little story about my life and receiving messages in the hopes that you will be inspired and feel the support of the Universe and the neteru in your own life. Then, I’ll share simple ways you can receive messages that only take a short bit of time.

A message from a Priestess in the 4th Dynasty

I haven’t yet shared all that happened since my last trip to Egypt because truthfully, I’m still processing large portions of it, but I’ll share that it’s been both ends of wonderful and awful and everything in between. So much of my life has changed since I returned home at the end of April and there are times that I feel not quite my Self and in the midst of some sort of existential crisis…you know, the questions of “who am I?” and “what is the meaning of Life?” I’ve struggled to redefine my Self and regain my self confidence, and in the midst of it all also trying to just “be normal” because everyone wants things to be easy and expected.

The Goddess Hathor has always been by my side and the more I’ve learned about her, the more I’ve loved her. The past few weeks, I’ve been reconnecting with my work in the Priestess Mentorship programs and my connection with Ancient Egypt by spending time each morning reciting the prayer of awakening to Hathor, lighting the incense, and pulling a card or opening the pages of a book and reading what it says. This particular form of divination is called bibliomancy and can be quite astounding….as it was for me recently.

I knew I was struggling with Life….not that I didn’t want to be here, but just struggling inside. When I finished my prayer and lighting the incense, I opened the book, Mistress of the House, Mistress of Heaven: Women in Ancient Egypt to the page with a statue of the Queen Hetepheres II embracing her daughter Meresanhk III. As I read about the statue, it described Meresanhk as a Priestess of Hathor and a Priestess of Thoth. I thought that was really interesting as I had just prepared a video presentation for my Iseum and Patreon about Thoth and his festival. I stared at the image and really loved it.

I set the book aside and felt a connection with Meresankh that remained with me throughout the day, as if there were more to come from her. As I was going to bed that evening, I thought about her name and it’s meaning. The “Ankh” portion was fairly simple - “Life” - but I was unsure about “Meres”. When I looked it up, it was just what I needed.

“She who Loves Life.”

In the following days, I kept her spirit and her name close and realized that I had written something in a new journal I purchased from a wonderful bookbinder in Cairo while I was there in February. Inside the front cover I wrote a message I received that was more like a mantra given to me.

“I am gifted Life. I gift Life by becoming. I gift Life by living.”

Wow! The image on the front of the book also depicts just that, and perhaps that is where the mantra came from. The woman is seated on a boat of lotus, a form of rebirth and renewal, and is being showered ankh symbols from the sun, which is a symbol of being gifted Life. She is offering the Khepera beetle, which signifies '“becoming”.

My card pulls, too, were reiterations of the message: Sphinx - Ankh - Bast (reversed). Everything changed in Egypt during April and it was prefaced by a powerful message from the Sphinx. The Bast card reversed reflects sadness and in the description in the book, it says that “nothing ceases to exist, it simply changes form, energy pattern, or frequency. Thus the human psyche…is continuously moving to other dimensions, or even other physical bodies…”

Somehow, across millenia of Time, when I was struggling with finding meaning and purpose in my Life, this Priestess from the past had me open a book to a photo of her statue so that I would receive the timely supportive message to embrace Life. It was an encouragement and at a time I needed it, although I wasn’t asking for a message per se, it was a message nonetheless. You really can’t make this up, right?!

How to receive messages

As you can see, I didn’t need to do anything spectacular or time consuming. I simply stopped for a few moments, connected to that which is divine, and allowed my mind to be open. The page of the book opened up, the cards lined themselves up, I was curious about a name’s meaning, and something I wrote in the beginning of the book was like I was writing to my future Self because I knew somewhere in my soul that I would need it later. All “normal” things, but they were laced with power and magic.

I’m not an astrologer, but I do believe that our stars are aligned and that there is an element of Fate that moves us through Life. My earliest memory is of me at around 6 years old knowing that I chose my Self….I chose my parents, the house I was growing up in, that I would love horses, and when I was born. I knew that when I was born was important to who I was, but I didn’t have the words for ‘astrology’ at the time.

Recently on my Instagram, I posted that our paths are divinely guided….if we so choose them to be. Yes, the path of our Life is Fate and divinely guided to a degree but we also have a choice. To choose to be open, to align with our Highest Self, and to remember our innate wisdom that followed us here from the stars.

Simple things you can do to receive messages, in no particular order:

  • Be open: Know that messages can come at any time and from any source

  • Take time to be still: This is key, because if you don’t stop you won’t be able to hear or notice messages

  • Ask for clarity: Yes, you can most definitely ask! When you ask, be specific - this is very important. “Yes/No” questions are difficult to receive clear answers for so perhaps asking, “What should I be focusing on at this time?” can be more helpful and redirect your attention to the most beneficial direction for your growth/path

  • Open a book: If you usually use a tarot or oracle deck, try a book instead. Whatever book you feel drawn to will work and after you’ve been still and taken some deep breaths, open the book and read from the pages.

  • Remember that messages can often feel like your own thoughts: This is why many people miss messages because they think they need to come from “somewhere else” …. but your intuition is your connection with Divine Wisdom….YOUR wisdom….from your stars and the Universe/neteru!

It may not be as exciting or complicated as rocket science, but also…. it can be….if you are open to the possibility of receiving the message you most need to hear.

May your path be always beautifully guided by the Universe and the neteru.
