Listening to the wind
January 20, 2026 - The Goddess Diaries
Oh, it’s cold! The arctic winds have been blowing and this past week here has been brutally cold. I’m not a fan of the winter months or the cold but I’ve been trying very hard to embrace the frigid temperatures and I’m happy to say, it seems like it’s working…at least the sting is softer.
Have you ever found your Self standing outside in the elements soaking them into your skin because you want to feel more alive than ever before or to remember a part of your soul that feels like home?
Many many years ago I was so empty inside and I remember one morning, in the dead of winter after feeding the animals on our farm, all I could do was lie down in the snow to feel held by the earth to hear her heartbeat. It was an innate wisdom that took me there and although the snow may have seemed like a cold, hard place to lie down, I felt so safe and supported. Nature has a way of holding you like nothing else; sure, human touch or cuddling with your cat or dog at night, or hugging your horse while they happily munch hay is so wonderful, too, but the elements also reach in and hear our needs. (Oooh, there’s so much to talk about here…the animals, the hearing, nature….I’m making notes to share more on these later!)
There’s also something about the extremes in the weather that can make you feel alive. The “dry” heat in the desert that beams down on you from the sky above your head and that radiates from the sand below your feet and all you can feel is your body cooling off by the sweat that rolls down your back and how wonderful the breeze feels against your skin. (I felt this way many times on our trips to Egypt!). It’s invigorating!
Me and sweet Remy in the arctic air!!
One cold morning….
I have a wonderful horse that chose me after I lost Fred and so I’ve been working at the barn on Mondays to help with her board. (I’ll have to introduce you to her….she’s the absolute sweetest!) This past Monday the temperature was a high of 7 F with a wind chill as low as -20 F. Yeah, try to embrace that, right? Well, embrace it I did….and I’m so glad I did! As I walked from the main barn to feed the miniature ponies in their little barn the arctic air hit my face and I bravely faced into it, not even trying to shield my skin from the cold but just leaning into it. I felt the sting of the cold wrapping itself across my skin and I listened to the wind whipping across the snow and through the treetops. I stood there for just a moment and breathed it all in. It was so very magical!
In that brief and magical moment, I could suddenly feel the winds of change rattling my bones and the light inside my soul being fanned into a flame. I had a knowing that I was soon emerging from my Cave with Isis and something that I had done years ago called out for me to resurrect it, in the same way Osiris was raised…in essence the same but also new and transformed.
That’s when I took in the wisdom of the arctic air and listened to the wind to resurrect “The Goddess Diaries”. These were special writings I did years ago that offered insight into my daily life as a Priestess and Oracle…and Human!… to inspire YOU, my dear reader, to find the magic in your own life and to better understand how intuition works and how you can find insight in even the most simple, yet potentially powerful, experiences. To start again in a more formal way with their title, “The Goddess Diaries” feels holy and perfect.
Sooooo, WELCOME, dear reader, to The Goddess Diaries!!
May you step outside, wherever you are, and feel the elements….but not only that, listen for their personal messages because they can answer your heart’s greatest desire that you’ve only dared to think about once upon a time. They will offer breadcrumbs for you to follow out into the light where that part of you that has died the most dying of deaths can merge with the sun god, Ra, and be reborn….not just once, but every day, just a little more each day.
Growth isn’t about leaps and bounds, it takes place slowly and sometimes it’s hard to keep your steady pace to absorb all the insight and process all that is shifting inside because in your excitement, you want to leap. If your heart feels like leaping, however, sometimes that is the best and only answer….only you will know. Soooooo, if you’re leaping or taking your time - each of these paths is full of richness, luxury, and fullness - and sometimes it only takes a moment to take it in and hear it….like standing in the arctic air, listening to the wind.
The Magic of the Wind/Air in Ancient Egypt
Shu holds up the body of the heavens (Nuit), separating her from the body of the earth (Geb)
The wind or element of air in Ancient Egypt is one of my favorites because they talk about it so poetically. All the elements, and objects of the natural world were, and still are, living and breathing pieces of Divinity….specifically the God Shu. In the Coffin Texts, there are specific spells in which the deceased align themselves with the God Shu, and Spell 81 is one of my favorites, stating,
“I am Shu, son of Atum; he fashioned me in his nose and I issued from his nostrils; he put me on his neck and kissed me every day. He shines and rises when he issues from his egg which the god fashioned as offspring. There is said to him: ‘Hail, O you who begot men as one who is in the horizon; I give air to his nose, his barque is alive, his flesh is alive, and I nourish his limbs…” (The Ancient Egyptian Coffin Texts, Vol. 1, R.O. Faulkner)
In the stories of the sky Goddess Nuit, she and her husband were so in love and their bodies were against each other in a tight, loving embrace. Nothing existed except for earth and sky. Nuit became pregnant with five children but her first-born, the sun God Ra, was jealous about sharing his mother with more siblings as he already shared the sky with the moon God, Thoth. So Ra called in the God Shu, the god of air…who IS the air, to lift the body of Nuit away from the body of her husband, the earth God Geb. Now with their bodies separated, there was space for new creativity to exist. Through the space Shu created between heaven and earth, it was now filled with the element of air (Shu)…where light and sound could now exist, where hearing and vision could take place, where imagination and communication could dance together.
Why is this story about Nuit important?
Air is the element of thought, communication, and life. We as humans need air and each time we inhale, we pull into our lungs the essence of Shu who then courses through our veins and gives our body what it needs to survive and thrive. In this way, with the air giving us life and the ability to think and communicate, we are walking pieces of Divinity, filled with the air and light of the God Shu. The Coffin Text Spell describes this quality of Shu so eloquently: “…I give air to his nose…I nourish his limbs…”. Again, in this way, we are walking pieces of Divinity, filled with the air and light of the God Shu.
I just love that, don’t you?
So on that arctic cold day, listening to the wind, feeling the sting of the cold air on my skin, Shu was there to inspire me with a vision, to fill my lungs with air and bring me life after my struggle with my health, to re-enliven my passion for writing and sharing through my Goddess Diaries….providing space for YOU to be inspired to have your own visions and find encouragement through my experiences and words.
Divinity….Shu….inspiration….are held in the air between us, and there is much to be discovered and revealed if you just stop and listen to the wind.

P.S. If you’ve listened to the wind, too, I’d love to hear about your experience and what its message was for you!
