The Oracles of Egypt are waiting for you to return…

Goddess Diaries, May 5, 2026

We often think of Egypt full of temples and priestesses and priests, reciting the prayers and lighting the incense. It’s no doubt that’s true but….there were Oracles in Egypt….and I’ve been where their words were carried on the wind.

Two priestesses left ancient Thebes (Luxor) in the form of black doves, with one settling in the deserts of the Siwa Oasis and the other traveling to Dodoni in Greece. These Oracle priestesses were known for their prophesies, their songs of intuitive wisdom, and their connection with not only their bodies but the bodies of nature. They heard their messages from the wind through the branches, from the babbling of the waters, from the blades of grass and honeybees on flowers. In Siwa, the Oracle temple was dedicated to the god Amun, the Egyptian counterpart of the Greek god, Zeus, who wielded lightning.

This oracle was visited by Alexander the Great when he made a pilgrimage to this sacred site. The journey was arduous, filled with sandstorms and lack of water, but the stories tell of divine intervention in the form of ravens, or snakes, or crows to lead him and his group to safety. When he reached the Oracle Temple, he was taken inside where he could speak to the god directly. During this meeting, Alexander was greeted as the son of the God, making him a divine being, and that he would be a great ruler, conquering worlds and avoiding defeat.

My last trip to Egypt included a return visit to the Siwa Oasis, this temple of Amun, and once again I could feel the energy of that ancient Oracle. As I stood in the center of the temple, I imagined what it must have felt like for Alexander the Great. I listened for the voice of the Oracle as the sun shone down on me and every sound felt holy. I didn’t know it then, but my future Self whose embers slowly burned inside of me was beginning to emerge. The emergence was painful and looking back, it began with the bite of an insect to my base chakra, the energy center in my body that forms the foundation of me, who I am in the world.

There were other oracles in Egypt before Alexander’s time and the Oracle temple in Siwa, located in Thebes (Luxor). These were in the form of the pharaohs and their wives who were worshiped as gods. Their statues would be carried out among the people and the priestesses and priests would interpret messages based on the movement of the statues in their barques. On the West Bank of Luxor today, there are two statues known as the Colossi of Memnon that were living oracles and it was said that their messages were delivered in the form of music as the wind whistled between them.

Since then it’s been a guided journey….into the cave, watched over by the Goddess, nurtured by the love of Hathor, and the path forward laid out in the stars above. I still felt like I was in the realm of the Egyptian Mysteries, but there was a new layer to them and a deeper understanding of the depths of concepts such as the divinity of nature, the celebration of every day, the way they envisioned their future Self by preparing in the present.

I didn’t know it then, but that moment in Siwa wasn’t just a visit. It was an activation.

Not into something new… but into something ancient that had been waiting for me to turn toward it.
