An invitation from the flowers
The Goddess Diaries, August 13, 2026
I don’t remember a time in which I’ve wanted to hug flowers so much. As I drive through the countryside on my way to work each morning for the past few weeks, my heart reaches for the inviting little groves of trees and tall grasses between them where their long morning shadows dance. I want to stop the car and be IN those places to breathe, to expand, to ground and grow and flourish. Responsibilities loom ahead but even so my heart is happy to have work so I gently remind my Self that the joy of these beautiful places will be with me as i go through all of my every-day Things. With that thought, I take a deep breath to remember it somehow and it always carries me through.
As I turn the corner and ascend the rolling pavement where the countryside opens up into large fields of tall corn and beans, my heart is pulled toward the beauty of the flowers lined up alongside the road, as if waiting for me to pass . The sweet little purple chicory flowers seem to sing as I pass by and the ethereal Queen Anne’s Lace waves in her special royal way as if to say, “Do stop by sometime for tea”.
Not only do I want to stop the car to take in the beauty of their intricate petals and feel my heart fill with joy, I have an overwhelming feeling of wanting to hug the flowers. I want to wrap my arms around their long stems and close my eyes and breathe in their scent. As I feel this longing course through my body, it’s almost as if I could remember being a flower or at least a fairy or a honeybee in a lifetime long ago.
According to folklore, Queen Anne’s Lace is a weed that is associated with safety, sanctuary, and protection, and after working within the First Arrow of the Root Chakra with Sekhmet this past week, it was so perfect that these were the flowers that kept calling to my heart each time I passed by them on the road. The Root Chakra is our home, our stability, and where we find safety.
The beauty and joy of Sekhmet’s ‘counterpart’ , Hathor, is there as well and we’ve been tapping into the joy of Connection in Hathor’s Joy this past month. The Oracles knew how to listen to their bodies and the healing offered by the simplicity of nature. Everything was dovetailing so perfectly within my every-day life in such a magical and meaningful way!
Stop and hug the flowers…
After waiting for weeks until no one was driving behind me, the day finally came. I pulled my car over, walked to the edge of the field, and hugged the flowers….not any flowers, but the Queen Anne’s Lace. They say you’re not supposed to touch royals but she embraced me right back.
Her scent was unexpectedly only tinged with sweetness….it was endearingly earthy. Tiny ants and other insects crawled freely on the stems and as I closed my eyes I could hear the buzzing of insects in the air around us. I stood there with my arms around the tall stems of the flowers and felt the earth beneath my feet. My entire body seemed to immediately let go of tension and every inhale expanded into possibility.
While we may not think of a Goddess such as Sekhmet or Hathor and the Ancient Egyptian Mysteries as having anything remotely to do with flowers along a country road in Indiana, I’m here to say ….YES! They are intrinsically tied together for the sole purpose of offering us healing and joy. Sekhmet’s Priestesses and Priests were the Great Healers and Physicians of Ancient Egypt. Hathor’s Priestesses were also healers through joy and connection. Our bodies are made to be filled with vitality and joy and these Goddesses work their magic in ways that touch our hearts, bringing healing and joy.
And just to add another layer of magic, this morning while at the chiropractor’s office for acupuncture, he randomly said, “It’s amazing we have these areas on our bodies that can help us heal.” His words reached right into me and it felt as if Sekhmet Her Self was speaking to me right there in the chiropractor’s office.
Where the wisdom waits….
Not all wisdom and healing comes through ancient temples and texts. When you take time to listen and trust that the whispers from flowers call to you, making sense when it wouldn’t make sense to anyone else, that’s powerful medicine.
This is the medicine we need right now! By giving my Self a sweet permission slip to follow my heart when hugging flowers might seem like a silly thing to others to do, I can now return to the feelings and scent of the flowers that truly nourished my spirit when I’m going through a hardship. It’s part of what I can remember that carries me through each day, just like the memories of the beautiful grove of trees and morning light that I drink in as I pass by.
If you’re waiting to feel this kind of magic or have been feeling your heart pulled by the beauty of the flowers, I invite you to listen to your heart and inner knowing and give your Self that sweet permission slip as a gift you can open again and again.
If you feel called to explore the healing wisdom of Sekhmet, The 7 Arrows of Sekhmet is open to you, and you can begin with the First Arrow now.
If your heart is longing for wisdom through joy, beauty, intuition, and connection, Hathor’s Joy: An Oracle Circle is waiting for you.
Take a breath and feel into each invitation. Notice which one makes something inside you lean closer.
Your inner knowing will lead you where you’re meant to go next.
